If you are a first time homebuyer in the Portland area, the Portland Housing Center is a tremendous resource. This nonprofit housing advocacy group has solid and reliable programs to help you out with down payments and tax credit programs.
This article in the Sunday Oregonian gives a great “real world” look at how one couple used some of the programs. This couple used the Portland Housing Center to get access to such programs as the Mortgage Credit Certificate Program at the Portland Housing Bureau, Portland’s first time homebuyer tax credit program.
By paying a small fee at the Portland Housing Center and taking a few classes, you can take advantage of down payment asisstance programs, local tax credits and great interest rates.
